Reasonably controlling intensity is one of the core aspects of exercise

2024-04-03

Discussion about exercise often revolves around how many sets, how many repetitions, and how exhausted one feels. I believe that controlling intensity reasonably is one of the core aspects of exercise, which is something that the exercise community, especially the vast majority who seek health, cannot ignore. Below are my views on intensity for your reference.

Intensity

  1. Exercise is not always something that leaves one exhausted, depleted, and drained. It is crucial to control intensity reasonably.

  2. From the description, it is evident that exercise is perceived as highly intense, requiring significant energy and willpower.

  3. When something requires so much effort, it is difficult to maintain and easy to give up halfway.

  4. In fact, the feeling after exercise should be relaxed and refreshing, leaving one feeling energized. This is also the feedback I received from exercising with my wife.

  5. To achieve this, it is essential to control exercise intensity very specifically.

  6. Therefore, the principle recommendation is to select several reasonable exercise patterns, adjust intensity, and feel refreshed after exercising.

  7. More specific recommendations include horizontal push, vertical push, horizontal pull, vertical pull, with squats being sufficient for beginners. The difficulty of squats can range from shallow squats, chair squats to bodyweight squats, and weighted squats. Find what suits you. Control the number of sets and repetitions to a level where you don’t feel tired.

  8. There is a simple subjective standard for exercise intensity load, divided into 9 stages, with 1-2-3 being easy, 4-5-6 being moderate, and 7-8-9 being difficult. For beginners, the level should not exceed 4, gradually increasing intensity as physical fitness improves.

  9. After controlling the intensity, sticking to exercise is not too difficult. As physical fitness improves, slightly increase the intensity. Over time, you will make progress that you couldn’t imagine at the beginning.

  10. Additionally, if someone suggests “just do it”, “squeeze out the last bit of strength”, or “feel the power”, it is advisable to be cautious.
